A Stroll Through Nebraska!
Day 4 continued with about a two hour drive from the south region of the Badlands, down to where I was trying to get to for the night in Fort Robinson State Park, Nebraska. The Fort was previously a U.S. Army fort and I managed to snag a room in what was once the officers quarters. I was so thankful to arrive at my destination and to get a room at the Fort Robinson Lodge to rest and recover from my headache and to enjoy a soft bed. No photos taken since, I fell asleep as soon as my head hit my pillow at 1900!
Good Morning Nebraska, and hello Day 5 of my road trip! After a good sleep-in and a great breakfast at the lodge. It was time to start seeing some of Nebraska! The first discovery I made was that Fort Robinson was a major hub during the Sioux Wars from 1876 to 1890. The Battle of Warbonnet Creek took place the fort in 1876. This was the location that the famous war Chief Crazy Horse and 1,100 other surrendered on May 6, 1877. It was also at this fort that Chief Crazy hours was killed on September 5 1877. The fort has memorials listing this and more information about the events that lead to the indigenous leader being killed.

I left the fog covered fort early and made my way to Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, pictured below. However, the hours at the Monument had been shortened and I arrived to early to go into the visitors center. I settled for reading some of the signs and information about the fossil filled hills. If I am ever in Nebraska again, I hope to get to see this monument.
The last stop on my Nebraska itinerary was Scotts Bluff National Monument. Scotts Bluff is a famous stopping point on the Oregon Trail and has vistas that over looks Chimney Rock National Historic Site. However, when I arrived it was raining and foggy, as the pictures show below. The visitors center at this monument was AMAZING. The staff were so helpful and the exhibits were very informative about the Oregon Trail journey. But with the threat of hail and bad weather in my review, I left the state of Nebraska and headed back to Colorado!
