A Weekend in NYC: The Village Edition

written in nyc, new york, usa, travel

NYC:Day 0 We flew in from Atlanta to NYC and started the trip off strong with Phra Nakhon. It was an amazing Thai Lunch and after a 7 am flight the camera did not eat first. We followed up this stop with a trip to Ariston Coffee Bar: 10/10 vibe the flower shop was decked out for valentines day, however it was pretty hard to find a table so be warned.

We then got to have fun with Friends at The Grey Dog Flatiron: Good Food, Grand Company, and Great Hugs! We were lucky enough to catch up and get to warm our souls this time! Next we headed off to Jelas: Clarified Cocktail Bar. Best Find of the Trip (i am writing this up nearly a year later to the date and we still talk about how amazing this bar was and how we would love to go back) we then wandered a bit further to Paradise Lost TIKI BAR. Now this place has a vibe but in more of the club and party way. So if you are an older soul this might not be the place for you to park it all night. But the drinks were good and we were glad we went to experience it!

NYC:Day 1 The next morning I got up and strolled through Washington Square Park finding our first coffee of the day at Fellini Coffee Soho. Now the theme for the day is gonna be to stroll and eat so let's get started. We had Lunch at Yum Cha for some amazing Dim Sum!! wondered a few miles and had Cardamom buns make me want to go back now!!! SMØR: Best Nordic Bakery I Have Eaten at So far; though of course i will keep tasting.

After a nap we took the subway and then took a walk In Central Park & chilled at Bethesda Terrace, Petite Tea At Bergdorf Goodman!

We were recommended going to Down And Out: Oysters & cocktails in the village and this was a great find!! After some more walking and strolling we failed at getting into PDT or Death & CO So we Tried Pineapple club. Not on our list to go back and visit again but we were definitely out of the age range they were marketing to. after more city strolling we stopped to have dinner at Ayat for some excellent Palestinian fare

NYC:Day 2 We rolled out of our hotel and tried Maman for breakfast which was tasty but ended up going to The Grey Dog for the amazing chai latte! Coffee in hand we took the subway to spend a quiet Sunday morning at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA.) The MOMA was fantastic of course but the exhibit that got me the most was the “Me Becomes We” exhibit that detailed how family albums came to allow anyone to walk into the frame. Next we got Spicy Tacos next to time square at LOS TACOS No.1. Now I am sceptical of any food anywhere near Times Square, but this was such a good stop and I would recommend it to anyone who is okay with a bit of heat on their tacos!

This put us right where we needed to be to get to our showing of Hadestown at the walter kerr Theater. For this performance we got to experience Jordan Fisher as Orpheus Lola Tung as Eurydice, Phillip Boykin as Hades, Malcolm Armwood as Hermes, and the amazing Ani DiFranco as Persephone.

Post show we wandered over to Death & Co and got in! Now I personally think I like the death and co in Denver CO a bit more just due to the furniture being my style but as always the Drinks did not disappoint! After more night strolling in NYC we ended up at Crif Dogs and then managed to get bar seats at Please Don’t Tell where the drinks were strong and the ambiance was unbeatable.

Day 3 The next morning we begrudged our previous night's adventures and made our 0400 ride to the airport. I did mention the flights were cheap, right? So when the flights are cheaper than a tank of gas they generally involve early morning rides to the airport. But since we were up and the only people in the hotel lobby I got some photos of it. We stayed at the Marlton Hotel. This hotel is amazing with so much history. The Marlton Hotel was built in 1900. It was originally a single room occupancy hotel for mostly transient guests but it did have some guests who stayed for months or years at a time. Because of its location in the Village's and its (once upon a time) relative affordability, the Marlton Hotel became popular amongst struggling actors, poets and artists looking for work in the city. Some of the names to have stayed in the hotel are Julie Andrews, John Lithgow, and Dame Maggie Smith.
