Day 0: American Southwest Road Trip!

written in new mexico, white sands, white sands national park, nps, usa, travel

First Stop was the A. B. Cox Visitors Center for the Organ Mountains National Monument. This area is protected due to the natural springs and wildlife habitats. It was such an amazing first stop to set the tone of this adventure!

After a short drive I was saying Hello to White Sands national park. Now white sands used to be a national monument. It is the worlds largest gypsum dunefield. Whitsands was upgraded from a national monument on December 20, 2019 and became the 62nd U.S. National Park.

The Mescalero Apache are the living descendants of the first Apache to settle here, and they maintain an active cultural affinity to the landscape of their ancestors.

The sunset was incredible to behold. The light in that hour could have convinced me I was on another world. A place where reality met fantasy and one was overwhelmed by the play of sky and sand.

The gypsum sand was cold under my fingers, which was such a change from the warm light baking on my face. Hopefully one day in the future I can go back for there full moon ranger led night hike. I would love to see this setting bathed in the moons glow!

Final glow of sunset had us all packing up. From the instagram gals, to the sand boarders, to the photographers... we all made our way back to our cars to get out of the park by closing.
