A New England Road Trip: Day 3!
Day 3 started off with one of the most infamous hikes in the park: The Beehive Trail! I had to have a 0500 alarm to go on this hike and I was on the trail head by 0545. You see this trail is very popular so beating the crowds was the only way that myself as a slow hiker was going to feel comfortable with this endeavor.
This trail has bolder fields at the base and some near vertical sections where ladders and rails are used to ensure safety as you climb up. The views along the was were spectacular and I don't think I will ever forget this unique national park experience!
After the hike was over, I walked down the Ocean Path Trailhead to Sand beach and put my feet in the cold atlantic waters!! It was the PERFECT place for a morning picnic! The sand at this beach is pretty unique because it is mostly composed of of crushed shells from the marine wildlife, or so the park signs indicated. It also got pretty busy as Sand beach is the longest stretch of sandy beach in Acadia.
Now I am not gonna lie to ya, even though The Beehive was only a few miles of hiking I was exhausted and took a really long nap before going to explore Bar Harbor. I had some snacks at Project Social Kitchen & Bar before grabbing dinner at Havana Latin American Restaurant. Havana was amazing and I super recommend it!
Next on the itinerary was a Ranger recommendation of sunset at Pretty Marsh. This hike is pretty short with a super high reward to effort ratio! I got to sit and enjoy the views. As a warning this section of the park has cell service... so you might get to hear the news that bunker busters were dropped on Iran while you are sitting and trying to enjoy the sunset. Or maybe that was just my experience.
